WHY YOU SHOULDN’T WORRY ABOUT VAGINAL ODOR

Society and the media enforces myths about how a woman and her vagina should look and smell. We'll cover these myths in later blogs, but for now, it is imperative that you understand that it's natural for a healthy vagina to not smell like flowers and fresh rain!

Somethings we must clear out first before we are to continue with this article are:

1. Vaginal odour is natural.

If you’re an individual with a vagina, you must remember that having an odourless vagina is not the norm. Neither is it expected to smell appealing. It produces vaginal fluids to maintain the pH of that part. Such vaginal discharge is perfectly normal and will smell as such.

2. Bacteria exists - it's okay!

There's a lot of bacteria living inside your vagina. That's exactly where it's supposed to be! It maintains healthy pH levels and protects you from nasty diseases. Douching to reduce vaginal odour could lead to a lot of itching and burning in the area and is a bad idea.

3. Consulting a doctor.

If you have any serious concerns about your vaginal health, the best thing to do is to visit a doctor. A case of persistent bad odour could mean that you have a vaginal infection. Also remember to buy Niine sanitary napkins that don't irritate your skin.

Now that we've got that covered, let's move on to things you can do for better vaginal healthcare:

1. Change your underwear regularly.

Okay we're not saying you don't practice good hygiene, but we all have moments where we just don't want to add to the laundry pile. Changing your underwear twice a day helps. Also, wearing breathable cotton underwear is the best. Satin, silk and lace look and feel pretty but they aren't practical for your skin.

2. Vinegar baths.

Consider soaking in a warm bath with some vinegar added to it. This helps restore the naturally acidic pH balance to your vagina, to make sure healthy bacteria grow again.

3. Do not use any products inside your vagina.

Your insides are perfect as is. Unless acting upon medical advice, (which is very rare and benefits from a second opinion), using soaps, essential oils or deodorants inside your vagina is one of the worst ideas you could have.

Again, remember that you're not a plastic doll. You are made of flesh and blood, so relax even if some parts of you smell a little weird sometimes. Do consult a doctor if you think that would help you.
